International Day for People with Disability was celebrated on Tuesday 3 December 2019.

The event is a key fixture on the international calendar and aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

The Victorian Disability Worker Commission celebrated the event by hosting drinks at the Community Space at 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne, bringing together representatives from across the sector, including the Disability Services Commission and Disability Registration Board of Victoria.

The event provided an opportunity to get together to celebrate the day, and increase awareness of the inclusion of people with disability across the community.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, ‘Promoting the participation of persons with disability and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda’, the Commissioner, Dan Stubbs, spoke about the Commission’s positive focus on helping people with disability have access to safe, quality services and information.

He also talked about building the new Commission’s workforce and its commitment to attracting and recruiting people with disabilities to work at the Commission.

To view the roles, Victorian Public Service staff can visit the Jobs and Skills exchange to view vacancies at the Victorian Disability Worker Commission.
